THE NIGHT MY NEIGHBOURS GOT ROBBED. (True Life Experience)

"You might not really understand some things, until it happens to you or ... someone close to you"

The night of April 3rd 2018 was like every other night, except that I had a staunch determination to read James Patterson's _Cross_  up to page 200. I usually spent my mornings working in the hospital and my nights trying to jug up anything I can read to keep my sanity in this crazy world. By midnight, after replying my WhatsApp messages, I continued from page 67 where I stopped the previous night.

After reading about an hundred pages, I dozed off in the sitting room where I did most of my night reading. Resisting the urge to sleep, I managed to get to page 170 before I heard a loud bang—loud, continuous bang. This was some minutes past 2am—I was sure because I heard the sitting room clock chime.

I went into my younger siblings room, which is the part of the house that is closest to our neighbour's. Even with the towering fence, I could still hear threats in the words of “I will kill you! Where is your mummy?!” Each scream and plead penetrated past the fence and landed into the room in still darkness. I woke my parents up, an adjacent room away but the noise has since kept them awake.

Fear, shock and perplexity painted us green—Fear; for we don't know what house is next and we're the closest. Shock; this was the first time a robbery incident is happening in this area since we relocated here more than five years ago. Perplexity; what is the next line of action? My mother immediately alerted the Vice Chairman of the CDA of the looming danger. She could have alerted the chairman if he wasn't the neighbour that was being robbed at that moment.

Noise. Noises. More Noises.

My parents and I were the only ones awake, we resulted into prayers—prayers that only our mind could speak because nothing really came out of our mouths. I recalled a story of how armed robbers successfully terrorised a whole community and various other tales my aunty from Oshodi told us during visits. I silently prayed and fell asleep moments after 3:29am.

The morning came with a lot of interesting revelations;

We learnt later that about 18 heavily armed robbers broke into the house after waylaying and overcoming the two night patrol officers on duty. Whooping 18 criminals! It was unbelievable.

They also attacked a church, an indigenous church to be precise; an indication of sheer unruliness to the religious institution.

No lives lost, but enough valuables were carted away; enough to cause high blood pressure.

The whole attack was suspected to be a setup, since our neighbour is a politician and also the CDA head, looks like he stepped on the wrong toes.

Fingers were pointed. Accusations and counter accusations but the matter is now in the police hand. We hope “our friends" are nice enough to do justice and bring the criminals to book.

If you think we can Sherlock Holmes this, I might as well provide the other details I have. Your suggestions is just the comment box away.
